Athens Riviera · Hydra · Spetses · Porto Cheli · Poros
The Athens Riviera and the Saronic Gulf are the easiest place to start a yacht charter in Greece. Most crewed yachts are based at the Athens marinas, about 30 minutes from the airport. You can land in the morning and be at anchor by lunch.
Distances are short and the water is sheltered. The summer meltemi is much gentler here than in the Cyclades. That makes the Saronic ideal for families, first-time charterers and anyone who wants more swimming and less time underway.
Highlights
The coastline south of Athens runs past Vouliagmeni, Varkiza and Lagonisi to Cape Sounion. End the first or last day at anchor below the Temple of Poseidon and watch the sun set behind the columns.
No cars, no scooters, just stone mansions around a perfect horseshoe harbour. Walk the coastal path to Kamini, swim off the rocks at Spilia, or anchor at Bisti and Agios Nikolaos on the quiet west coast.
Pine forests, horse-drawn carriages and a long sea-faring history. Dine in the Old Harbour, then spend the day in the coves of Zogeria and Agia Paraskevi on the far side of the island.
A deep, sheltered bay on the Peloponnese coast, lined with elegant resorts and beach clubs. It is a calm overnight anchorage and the gateway to the Argolic Gulf, Kosta and the island of Dokos.
Your yacht glides through a narrow channel lined with waterfront tavernas. Climb to the clock tower for the view, visit the lemon forest across the water at Galatas, and swim at Love Bay.

When to Go
The season runs from May to October. June and September offer warm water, calm seas and quieter anchorages. July and August are the busiest months, but the Saronic stays well protected from the strongest northerly winds.
Board in Athens and cross to Aegina for an afternoon swim and pistachio ice cream in the harbour.
Cruise the Methana peninsula to Poros. Evening drinks on the waterfront.
Swim at Love Bay, then on to Hydra. Stay for sunset at the harbour.
Lunch at anchor at Bisti, then continue to Spetses and the Old Harbour.
A short hop to Porto Cheli for water toys and a beach club afternoon.
The clear bays of Dokos, then a quiet night near Ermioni.
Cross back along the Riviera with a final swim near Cape Sounion.
